Many users trying to sign up on the Udayam Registration portal, managed by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises ( MSME ),faced unexpected issues owing to a technical snag.

The Udyam portal, launched on July 1, 2020, helps MSMEs register online to access government benefits. MSMEs can apply through the official portal to get a unique identification number and an e-certificate of recognition. This certificate proves their MSME status and is valid as long as the business continues.

While Udyam registration is not mandatory, it is essential for claiming various benefits and support schemes offered by the government. The Udyam system has replaced the older Udyog Aadhaar registration and is part of the government’s effort to simplify processes and support small businesses across the country.

Although PAN verification is functioning properly, the portal is unable to fetch investment and turnover data from the Central Board of Direct Taxes ( CBDT ) system,as per the notification displayed on the site.

The message displayed in the screen is as follows: “Your investment and turnover detail has not received as CBDT server is down. Please try after some time”

The current technical issue is creating hurdles for users who rely on PAN-linked data to speed up their Udyam registration. Although the system continues to verify PAN details and pre-fill some sections, the failure to retrieve financial information is likely to hold up the completion of applications.

The portal has also reminded applicants that having a GSTIN is compulsory for Udyam registration under the CGST Act, 2017. This requirement has been in place since April 1, 2021, following notification S.O. 1055(E) issued on March 5, 2021. Those without a GSTIN are encouraged to apply to avoid delays in the future.

Authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the cause of the disruption or when the issue will be fixed. Until then, users are advised to wait for the system to stabilize before proceeding with their registration.
