Centre Appoints Krati Nigam as Joint Commissioner, CGST Daman

The Central Government has appointed Krati Nigam as Joint Commissioner, Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST), Daman, through a notification published in the Gazette of India. The order was issued by the Ministry of Finance, Department of Revenue, under the powers conferred by the Union Territory Goods and Services Tax Act (UTGST) 2017, the Central GST Act, 2017, and the GST Rules, 2017.
The notification amends the earlier 2018 order, which had designated officials for GST administration in Union Territories. Specifically, the amendment substitutes entries at Serial Nos. 3 and 4 in the official table of officers, placing Krati Nigam in charge of GST matters for Daman. The appointment takes effect immediately upon publication in the Gazette.
As Joint Commissioner, she will be responsible for supervising GST operations, ensuring adherence to statutory provisions, and facilitating coordination between taxpayers and the department.

This move is part of an ongoing process to update GST administration in Union Territories. Since its original issuance in October 2018, the notification has undergone several amendments to reflect changes in personnel and administrative responsibilities.
Updates were previously made in May 2019, October 2019, December 2019, March 2022, November 2022, and May 2023, each time revising the list of designated officers to ensure smooth implementation of GST laws.
The appointment of Krati Nigam underscores the government's important move on strengthening GST administration in Union Territories, where the Central Government directly oversees tax collection and compliance.
The notification was signed by Muthuraman C., Under Secretary, Department of Revenue, and published with immediate effect.
