DGFT issues Guidelines for Export of 25 Lakh MT Wheat, Online Applications Open from May 1 - 10
The allocation will prioritise large exporters, government‑linked cooperatives, and MSMEs, ensuring transparent and equitable distribution under the Foreign Trade Policy 2023.

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has issued detailed procedures for the export of 25 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of wheat from India. The modalities, notified through Public Notice No. 05/2026‑27, outline eligibility, documentation, and allocation criteria for exporters seeking authorisation under the Foreign Trade Policy 2023.
As per the notice, exporters with an active Importer Exporter Code (IEC) must submit their applications online via the DGFT portal between May 1 and May 10, 2026. The authorisation granted will remain valid for six months from the date of issue and will be non‑transferable, meaning only the original IEC holder can use it.
A Special Exim Facilitation Committee (SEFC) will oversee the allocation process. Of the total 25 LMT permitted for export, 18 LMT will be earmarked for large exporters with a minimum average annual turnover of ₹150 crore over the past three years and applications for at least 50,000 MT. These applicants must have a Chartered Accountant’s certificate with a valid UDIN to verify turnover.

Another 5 LMT will be reserved for State Trading Enterprises and Cooperative Societies operating under the Government of India and engaged in agricultural trade. The remaining 2 LMT will be allocated to MSME exporters applying for not less than 10,000 MT.
The SEFC will review export progress after three months and may re‑allocate unutilized quantities if less than 50 per cent of the allotted volume has been shipped. Applicants must submit confirmed export orders, past performance data for five financial years, and supporting CA certificates at the time of application.
Exporters are also required to file monthly progress reports to the DGFT by the 5th of each month, failing which action may be taken under the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992.
The DGFT clarified that all applications for wheat export authorisation will be processed strictly in accordance with these modalities, ensuring transparency and equitable distribution among qualified exporters.
