A recent media report about setting up a new body called the Indian Institute ofAccounting (IIA) has created a big discussion among CA, CS and CMA students across India. The report claimed that the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) is planning to form a new institute which may conduct exams and design syllabus for ICAI, ICSI and ICMAI.

As per the viral news, a committee was said to be formed by MCA to study this idea. It was also reported that the new body, IIA, could bring a common syllabus and reduce duplication between the three professional courses. However, the report also mentioned that core powers like membership and discipline will still remain with existing institutes.

But now, ICAI has issued an official press note and clearly denied these claims. The institute said that the news is “factually incorrect and not supported by any official confirmation from the Ministry concerned.”

ICAI also pointed out that such reports have created “widespread confusion, chaos and panic amongst the students pursuing the course and preparing for the upcoming May examinations.” Many students were worried about possible changes in exam pattern, difficulty level and even control of the course.

In its clarification, ICAI advised students and stakeholders “not to be influenced by such unverified reports.” It also encouraged students to remain focused on their preparation for the upcoming exams.

On social media, the news had already gone viral, with many discussions and mixed reactions. Some professionals also raised concerns about loss of independence if such a body is created. But with ICAI’s clarification, it is now clear that there is no official plan as of now.

ICAI also added that it “remains steadfast in its commitment to the profession and its student community.”

For now, everything remains the same in CA course and examination system. Students can continue their preparation without worrying about any sudden changes.
