The Ministry of Finance issued Notification No. S.O. 3268(E) dated 17th July 2025, announcing the designation of two special courts in Raipur and Jaipur to hear cases under the Prohibition of Benami Property Transactions Act, 1988.
According to the notification, the central government has exercised its powers under Section 50(1) of the Benami Act, in consultation with the Chief Justice of the respective High Courts, to amend an earlier notification issued on 16th October 2018. This amendment updates the list of courts authorized to deal with benami property cases.

As per the notification:
- The Court of XII Additional Sessions Judge, Raipur, has been designated in place of the earlier court listed under Serial No. 5.
- The Special Court (Communal Riots), Jaipur has been appointed under Serial No. 21.
These changes are part of the government's effort to ensure efficient handling of cases related to benami transactions, which refer to properties bought in someone else's name to conceal the real owner's identity, often for illegal purposes such as tax evasion or money laundering.

The Benami Property Transactions Act was originally passed in 1988 and later amended to strengthen enforcement and allow for confiscation of benami properties. Designating special courts helps speed up the adjudication process and strengthens the legal framework for tackling such offenses.
The notification was published in the Gazette of India (Extraordinary), Part II, Section 3, Sub-section (ii) and signed by Samuel Pitta, Deputy Secretary in the Department of Revenue.
