Finance Ministry Opens Consultant Posts in GSTAT for Retired Govt Officers

The Finance Ministry issued an office memorandum asking retired government officers to send applications for consultant jobs in the new Goods and Services Tax AppellateTribunal (GSTAT).

Key Highlights

  • Who can apply: Retired officers from Central Government, Supreme Court or Tribunals.
  • Age limit: Applicant should be less than 62 years when applying. Work can continue till 65 years, if extended every year and performance is good.
  • Contract terms: Initial appointment for one year, extendable annually. The Department of Revenue reserves the right to terminate the contract at any time.
  • Remuneration: Based on the formula “Last Basic Pay minus Basic Pension,” as per Department of Expenditure guidelines. No increments during the contract period.
  • Selection process: Past record, experience, and personal interaction will determine suitability.
  • Application mode: Online applications only, through the portal.

Posts and Vacancies

The notification lists 75 consultant posts across India. These include:

  • Joint Registrar: 5 posts
  • Deputy Registrar: 6 posts
  • Assistant Registrar: 1 post
  • Court Officer: 14 posts
  • Principal Private Secretary: 10 posts
  • Senior Private Secretary: 16 posts
  • Private Secretary: 23 posts

Vacancies are spread across major cities such as New Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Patna, Raipur, Guwahati, Cuttack, Ranchi, and others.

Terms and Conditions

  • Consultants must devote full time to GSTAT and cannot take up other jobs.
  • They must maintain confidentiality and sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement.
  • Leave entitlement is 1.5 days per month, with no carry forward beyond the year.
  • Police verification is mandatory before joining.
  • No benefits like pension, gratuity, or provident fund will be provided.
