From 54,000 Filings to 48,000 Resolutions: NCLT Chief Bows Out after Transforming Tribunal Efficiency [Read Order]

Stepping down after more than 4 years at the helm, (Retd.)Chief Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar leaves behind an unforgettable legacy at the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT). During his tenure, the tribunal witnessed nearly 54,000 filings, of which over 48,000 were successfully resolved with a disposal rate exceeding 85%.
The Hon’ble President of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), Chief Justice (Retd.) Ramalingam Sudhakar demitted office on 13 February 2026, concluding a distinguished tenure that began in November 2021. Over more than four years, he steered the Tribunal with diligence, integrity, and a steadfast commitment to judicial excellence in corporate and insolvency matters.
At his farewell reference held in his honour, attended by Members of the Tribunal and representatives of the NCLT Bar Associations, he credited this achievement to the cooperation of all stakeholders.
Beyond judicial responsibilities, Justice Sudhakar focused on strengthening administrative systems and modernizing infrastructure. His initiatives created a smoother, more efficient environment for lawyers, litigants, and staff, leaving behind a legacy of institutional resilience and improved access to justice.

(Retd.) Chief Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar
He was born on 14 February 1959 in Panapakkam village, Vellore district, Tamil Nadu and earned his Law degree from Madras Law College.
(Retd.) Chief Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar enrolled as an advocate and began his practice under the mentorship of senior advocate Habibullah Badsha, who had served as Advocate General of Tamil Nadu and Public Prosecutor of the Madras High Court.
He took charge as President of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) in November 2021. Before that, he was appointed Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court in May 2018 and retired in February 2021.
His departure marks not just the end of a distinguished chapter, but also sets a benchmark for future leadership in strengthening India's corporate and insolvency jurisprudence.
