A joyful celebration turned into a tragedy on Wednesday evening as two young women lost their lives in a stampede during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) victory event. Among the victims was CA Akshatha Pai, a bright and promising Chartered Accountancy gold medalist.
Akshatha Pai, a native of Mulki in Mangalore, was pursuing her Chartered Accountancy in Bengaluru and had already achieved distinction by earning a gold medal in her exams. She was the daughter of Amrith Pai, who owns a shop near the Shree Venkatramana Temple in Mulki.
Akshatha had recently married Ashay, an engineer, just a year and a half ago. On the day of the incident, the couple was attending the RCB celebration at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. While trying to enter the venue through Gate No. 17, a large crowd surged forward, causing a stampede. In the chaos, Akshatha was separated from her husband.
Ashay was rescued by bystanders and security personnel, but sadly, Akshatha could not make it out. Her husband later identified her body, recognizing the RCB jersey she was wearing during the event.
