The Goods and ServicesTax Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) has formally begun functioning with the appointment of 22 Judicial Members as Vice Presidents across state benches. TheMinistry of Finance issued an order on 23 March 2026 under the authority of the President of India and Section 109(7) of the Central Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017, strengthening the leadership structure of GSTAT nationwide.

By designating Judicial Members as Vice Presidents, the government aims to ensure smoother functioning of GSTAT benches and quicker resolution of tax disputes. The Vice Presidents will oversee tribunal operations in their respective states, providing leadership and consistency in adjudicating GST-related appeals. The appointment covers benches in nearly every region of the country
