ICMAI Launches Research Project 2025: Grants up to ₹1.5 Lakh for IBC, Insolvency, SARFAESI & Related Laws
ICMAI is receiving projects pertaining to IBC, SARFAESI, liquidation, personal and corporate insolvency, cross-border regimes and allied topics.

The Insolvency Professional Agency of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India ( ICMAI ) has launched the ‘Research Project Scheme 2025’, inviting research proposals to enhance the knowledge database of key dimensions of India’s insolvency and bankruptcy ecosystem.
With grants of up to ₹1.5 lakh per project, the initiative aims to encourage original research from professionals, academics, scholars and students on topics relevant to the work of the ICMAI.
The initiative calls for research projects on The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 (IBC), Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest Act, 2002 (SARFAESI), liquidation, personal and corporate insolvency, cross-border regimes and allied topics.

ICMAI has outlined several suggestive focus areas including emerging trends, best practices, fast track and pre-packaged resolution processes and the broader impact of insolvency law on the Indian economy.
The Institute has, however maintained that the scope of research is not limited to these topics and welcomes submissions on other relevant areas within the insolvency framework.
Prior to the process, interested individuals must submit a research proposal in about 1000-1500 words on the subject, a curriculum vitae, contact details and a proposed budget and timeline. The proposal shall not explicitly or implicitly divulge the name or identity of the researcher anywhere, except on the front page.
Proposals are to be submitted in the format prescribed, with the last date for submissions 25th August 2025.
After completion, researchers are expected to submit a full-length research paper apt for academic publication, along with a 1,000- word non-technical summary of the core findings.
The research report must follow a structured format consisting of sections such as overview, objectives, literature review, problem statement, research gaps, hypothesis, methodology, data analysis, conclusions, limitations, and references. Reports should be between 5,000 to 10,000 words long and formatted using Cambria font with specified spacing and citation rules.
Research Grant
The scheme offers a maximum grant of ₹1.5 lakh per project, subject to approval based on merit and fund availability.
Eligible expenses include honoraria for research personnel, domestic travel for data collection, accommodation and operational costs directly related to project delivery such as printing, communication, evaluation, translation or dissemination activities like seminars or publishing.
Duration
The research duration is capped at four months from the date of approval of the project proposal. The reimbursement of funds will be linked to the progress of the project, as assessed by the Research and Publication Committee.
