The online application gateway for the Departmental Examination 2025 for Income TaxOfficers (ITOs) and Income Tax Inspectors (ITIs) has been formally inaugurated by the Income Tax Department.
Between May 23, 2025, and June 23, 2025, eligible departmental applicants can now apply online. The online application form is available through the official departmental portal via https://ito2025.cbtexam.in/.
Important Dates:
- Start of Online Application: May 23, 2025
- Last Date to Apply: June 23, 2025 (8:00PM) No application form will be accepted after this date
- Examination Dates: 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th and 15th September 2025
Who Can Apply?
This examination is open to:
- Income Tax Officers (ITOs)
- Income Tax Inspectors (ITIs)
who are eligible as per departmental norms for appearing in the 2025 departmental examination.

The notification states that “It may kindly be ensured that the application forms are correctly filled by the candidates and duly forwarded from respective In-charge of Examination office, for which there is a designated space in the application form itself. The number of chances availed by candidates must be verified with due care.”

How to Apply Online: Step-by-Step Guide
STEP 1: Registration
- Visit the official examination portal.
- Select the exam category: ITO or ITI.
- Enter the following details:
- Roll Number
- Employee Code
- Full Name
- Date of Birth
- Email ID
- Mobile Number
- Gender
- Category
4. Tick the declaration checkbox and click "Save & Next".
5. Note down your Login ID and Password. Re-login to change your password
STEP 2: Exam Details
- Select Eligible Designation.
- Choose subjects from the dropdown list.
- Select your preferred Exam Centre and Sub-centre.
STEP 2(A): Previous Attempt Details
- Select Earlier Appeared As: (Old Pattern/New Pattern).
- Your old roll number, department, and number of previous attempts will auto-fill if applicable.
- Select whether Hindi is exempted for you.
- Indicate whether you are a Betterment Candidate.
- Upload a passport-size photo and signature in JPG format (each up to 100KB).
- Preview the uploaded documents.
- Click Save & Next.
- Carefully review all the information entered.
- After verifying, submit the application.
