Income Tax Dept Releases Excel Utility for ITR-1 & ITR-4 for AY 2026-27

The Income Tax Department has released the Excel-based utilities for ITR-1 and ITR-4 for Assessment Year (AY) 2026-27 on the official e-filing portal.

As per the Income Tax Department website, the “Date of release of latest version of utility” and the “Date of release of first version of utility” for both ITR-1 and ITR-4 is 15-May-2026.

For ITR-1, the portal states that the form is applicable to resident individuals having total income up to Rs.50 lakh, with income from salaries, two house properties, other sources such as interest, long-term capital gains under Section 112A up to Rs.1.25 lakh, and agricultural income up to Rs.5 thousand.

The following ITR-1 files have been made available on the portal:

• Utility Excel Based - latest version released on 15-May-2026
• Schema - latest JSON Schema released on 15-May-2026
• Validations - latest validation released on 15-May-2026

For ITR-4, the portal states that the form is applicable to individuals, HUFs and firms other than LLPs, being residents having income up to Rs.50 lakh and income from business and profession computed under Sections 44AD, 44ADA or 44AE. It also covers long-term capital gains under Section 112A up to Rs.1.25 lakh.

The following ITR-4 files have been made available on the portal:

• Utility Excel Based - latest version released on 15-May-2026
• JSON Schema released on 15-May-2026
• Validations - latest validation released on 15-May-2026

The release of these utilities will allow eligible taxpayers to start preparing and filing their income tax returns for AY 2026-27 through the official Income Taxe-filing portal.
