An individual has raised serious questions about the effectiveness of the Income Tax Department’s grievance redressal system. He claimed that the department is sending out generic copy-paste replies to all grievances without addressing the specific issues raised.

Sharing screenshots on X (formerly Twitter), the individual explained how he received similar responses to multiple grievances. To test whether the system was actually reviewing complaints, he consciously filed a test ticket with unrelated content only to receive the same standard reply yet again.

Test Ticket Grievance by the Individual to the Department on 7th July 2025:

“Test ticket to check if someone is evening reading the request or just closing all tickets with the same copy paste response…”

Response of Income tax department to this grievance ‘Test Ticket’:

“Dear Taxpayer, we are in process of analyzing your response to communication sent with regard to rectifying the defect in your Return of income filed for AY. If you have filed revised return subsequently, the same will be taken up for processing and it will be done based on various automated validations and risk parameter analysis. Also certain claims made by you in the return will be validated on system driven environment. CPC will send intimation to your registered email id once the processing gets completed.”

The individual called this a “clear failure of the grievance redressal system,” stating that genuine concerns are being mechanically disposed of without any real review.

According to the individual, the response he received from the Income Tax Department for both his original grievance and the deliberately raised test ticket was identical. This, he claims, shows that the team handling grievances is mechanically sending generic replies without actually examining the issues raised.
