ITR Processing and Refund Delayed: Taxpayers Turn to ‘X’, Demands Immediate Action
The official handle of the Income Tax India (@IncomeTaxIndia) witnessed a lot of replies demanding urgent intervention and clarity on the status of their pending claims.

Taxpayers across the nation are taking to the social media platform 'X' (formerly Twitter) to voice their frustration over significant delays in the processing of their Income Tax Returns (ITR) and the subsequent issuance of refunds.
The public grievance comes as many individuals, who filed their ITRs several months ago, find their processing status unchanged or their refunds stuck in the "pending" stage. Taxpayers are sharing screenshots and citing long wait times for Income Tax Return (ITR) processing and refund.
Users report that their ITRs, despite being successfully e-verified, remain under processing for up to three months or more. Some Taxpayers claim that these status has not changed even after raising grievances in the portal.

Taxpayer’s complaint also highlights the "Refund Not Issued" status, even after the ITR has been officially processed and the demand for a refund confirmed. They also shared their acknowledgement number requesting for immediate action.

Many users have expressed the financial inconvenience caused by the delay, especially those who rely on the refund amount for planned expenditures or settling dues. Many Taxpayers complained that ITR had not been processed over a period of 3 to 4 months.

One of the Taxpayers expressed his frustration that every family member in his family received ITR refunds but his ITR was not even processed. Similarly, a taxpayer stated in X that only few percent of Indians were paying tax but even that too was not processed and refunded by the department.
While the volume of complaints continues to rise, the Income Tax Department has been responding to queries, typically issuing standard advisories. These advisories included writing an email with Pan number and other details etc.

The department continues to assure taxpayers that it is working actively to clear the backlog and has urged them to verify their bank account details and check for frequent updates for the refund process.
However, most of the users complained there was no progress even after submitting grievances and writing emails to the Income Tax department. The department once again responded with generic replies for which some of the taxpayers expressed their frustration.

For a growing number of taxpayers, these generic responses are insufficient, fueling the demand for immediate action and a more transparent, predictable processing timeline.
