The Karnataka High Court has directed the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) to extend the due date for filing tax audit reports to 31 October 2025. The order was passed in a writ petition filed by the Karnataka State Chartered Accountants Association (KSCAA).
The judgement copy is expected to be available shortly, but the direction has already brought relief to professionals and taxpayers across the state.
KSCAA had approached the High Court pointing out the challenges faced by taxpayers and auditors in meeting the earlier deadlines. The association argued that technical issues in the income tax e-filing portal, delays in release of updated forms, and the heavy workload on professionals during the audit season made it impossible to complete tax audits within the limited timeframe.
The court took these practical difficulties into account and directed the CBDT to extend the due date until the end of October.

The extension is expected to ease the pressure on chartered accountants and businesses who were struggling to meet the statutory deadline under Section 44AB of the Income Tax Act. It will provide more time to complete audit work in an accurate and efficient manner, reducing the risk of errors and non-compliance.
This order also adds to growing judicial and professional pressure on the CBDT to provide more realistic timelines for statutory compliances. In a related development, the Rajasthan High Court has also ordered the CBDT to extend the tax audit report due date by 30 days, further strengthening the case for nationwide relief.
