Operation White Veil: DRI, Customs, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police Seize ₹55 Crore worth Heroin, Opium and Walkie Talkies
The DRI and Assam Rifles have been recurringly conducting drug busts within the North-Eastern Region

In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking in the North Eastern Region, a special operation codenamed “Operation White Veil” led to the seizure of contraband drugs and cash worth approximately ₹55.52 crore in Manipur.
The operation was conducted jointly by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Customs, 37 Battalion Assam Rifles, and Manipur Police in the bordering areas of Churachandpur District from 5th to 7th June 2025.

According to the Press Information Bureau, the coordinated effort resulted in the confiscation of 7,755.75 grams of heroin, valued at ₹54.29 crore, and 6,736 grams of opium, with an estimated international market value of ₹87.57 lakh.
Additionally, the authorities seized ₹35.63 lakh in cash, two Baofeng Walkie-Talkies, and a Maruti Eeco Van. Five individuals were apprehended and arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
The operation began in the early hours of 6th June 2025, when two suspects in a Maruti Eeco Van were discreetly tailed from Behiang Village on the Myanmar border to a residence at Thadou Veng in Singngat Sub-Division.

Upon searching the house, officials discovered 219 soap cases filled with heroin, eight packages and 18 small tin cans containing opium, two walkie-talkies, and ₹7,58,050 in cash.
One individual was apprehended on-site while two others who attempted to escape were caught at Bualkot Check Gate. Subsequent searches at a suspect’s house in Behiang Village revealed two more opium packages and an additional ₹28,05,000 in cash.
On 7th June, acting on further intelligence, two more suspects carrying improvised manpacks were intercepted at Zoukhonuam Village near BP 46. Searches of the manpacks revealed 440 soap cases containing heroin.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the seized drugs had been smuggled into Churachandpur District from Myanmar through the porous, forested Indo-Myanmar border.

The NDPS Act prescribes stringent punishment to offenders which may entail rigorous imprisonment upto ten years.
Despite logistical and operational challenges, the law enforcement agencies’ joint and coordinated operation led to the success of Operation White Veil.
