PRARAMBH 2026: IT Dept rolls out awareness drive on New Income Tax Law
By combining outreach with technology-driven enforcement, PRARAMBH 2026 reflects the government’s broader agenda of balancing facilitation with accountability.

The Income Tax Department has rolled out ‘PRARAMBH 2026’, a nationwide multimedia awareness campaign centered on the Income Tax Act, 2025, which will come into force on April 1, 2026. The initiative spans print, radio, television, outdoor, digital, and social media platforms, aiming to build public understanding of the new law’s key features and simplify compliance for taxpayers.
At the launch event, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman underscored the importance of adopting a fresh, taxpayer-friendly mindset, moving away from enforcement-driven approaches to trust-based engagement.
She pointed out that the new Act is designed to reduce ambiguity, lower disputes, and make compliance easier for honest taxpayers, while deploying technology and analytics to detect evasion. Also officially released various resources, including:
- A comprehensive documentary on the making of the new Act.
- A compendium of FAQs bridging the old and new Acts
- Regional language brochures and an educational animated book for schools, "Madhukar Explains."

In the launch, representatives from various sectors, including chartered accountants and NPOs, provided feedback, emphasising the need for fast-tracked dispute resolution and simplified procedures for non-profits.
The PRARAMBH 2026 campaign improves taxpayer engagement through several initiatives designed to make the transition to the new tax regime smoother and more accessible. The campaign aims to reduce confusion and litigation by drastically reducing the complexity of forms and shortening the overall Act.
Senior officials, including Revenue Secretary Arvind Srivastava, CBDT Chairman Ravi Agrawal, and CBIC Chairman Vivek Chaturvedi, joined the campaign launch, highlighting the reform as a milestone in India’s tax journey.
The campaign also seeks to engage taxpayers directly, reduce litigation, and promote transparency.
