CA Impersonator Caught After 15 Years: Misused Real CA ICAI Membership & Signed Audit Reports
A man posed as a Chartered Accountant for 15 years, using a real CA’s ICAI membership while the actual member lived abroad, forging audit reports and deceiving clients across India

For more than 15 years, a man managed to convince companies, clients, and institutions that he was a qualified Chartered Accountant. In reality, he wasn’t. A man named Soorampalli Suresh allegedly pretended to be a Chartered Accountant for over 15 years by stealing the identity of a real CA, Suresh Babu Sakhamuru.
A public notice was issued in The Hindu on August 4, 2025, by advocates M. Ravi and P. Harish Varma on behalf of CA Suresh Babu Sakhamuru. The notice warns the public not to deal with Soorampalli Suresh or his firm, and states that any transactions made through him are considered null and void.
According to the notice, Soorampalli Suresh operated a firm under the name S. Sureshbabu & Co, located at 1-405, Divya Shakthi Complex, Ameerpet, Hyderabad. He allegedly used ICAI Membership No. 027110 to pose as a Fellow Chartered Accountant.
The fraud reportedly took place from 2010 to July 2025. During this time, the impersonator is said to have submitted forged audit reports and financial documents to banks, private companies, government agencies, and other parties.
The issue came to light when CA Suresh Babu returned to India and tried to renew his ICAI membership. After discovering the misuse of his identity, he filed a police complaint at the MVP Police Station in Visakhapatnam. This led to the registration of Crime No. 288/2025 and the arrest of Soorampalli Suresh. He was later released on bail.
Impersonating a Chartered Accountant is a serious criminal offence in India and can lead to jail time, fines, and legal action. The public is advised to always check the credentials of professionals before doing business with them.
After this incident, many people on social media are asking for changes. They want the ICAI to do the following:
- Check every Chartered Accountant’s identity every year using Aadhaar or other secure ways
- Keep a closer watch on CA firms to find fake ones early
- Teach the public how to check if someone is a real CA
- Make stronger laws to punish people who pretend to be CAs
The ICAI has not said anything yet about what it will do. But this case may lead to big improvements. The police are still looking into the matter, and more information may come out soon.
