The Special Court of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Ghaziabad today, convicted and sentenced a former branch manager of the Union Bank of India to four years of imprisonment along with a fine of ₹30,000 for his role in facilitating bank fraud by misutilising his position.
As per a press release dated October 18, 2025 issued by the investigation agency, the Special Judge (CBI Anti-Corruption) found Manoj Srivastava - then Branch Manager of Union Bank of India, SSI Branch, Noida, to be guilty of criminal conspiracy and have abused his official position to cause wrongful loss to the bank.
Notably, the case was originally registered by the CBI on December 14, 2010, almost 14 years prior. Allegations were raised that Srivastava, while serving as Branch Manager between May 2007 and June 2009 had colluded with private parties to sanction and disburse loans against forged and fabricated documents. The fraudulent disbursements resulted in financial losses to the bank, prompting a full-fledged investigation by the CBI.
On September 29, 2012, the CBI filed a chargesheet against Srivastava and others for offences related to criminal misconduct, cheating and conspiracy. It was the case of the prosecution that Srivastava had abused his official position as a public servant, enabling undeserving beneficiaries to fraudulently avail loans.
