CBIC resumes Customs Duty Payment through Electronic Cash Ledger

CBIC - Customs Duty Payment - Electronic Cash Ledger - ECL - Taxscan

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has resumed the functionality to pay Customs Duty through the credit in the Electronic Credit Ledger in the ICEGATE Portal.

CBIC clarified the same through a tweet in the official twitter handle @cbic_india

The payment using ECL Credit has been resumed after the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) had disabled payments of Customs Duty from the credit in the Electronic Cash Ledger (ECL) temporarily for maintenance.

However, in a major move of relief to the stakeholders, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs had waived the interest on import duty payable from the Customs Electronic Credit Ledger (ECL).  The CBIC had to forgo the interest, since the ECL Wallet Credit Payments of Customs Duty is still not available to the stakeholders even after 48 hours of downtime.

This functionality had been taken down for a short while by the CBIC due to revamping of the integration mechanisms for data exchange between ICES, ICEGATE, ICEGATE and Banks and ICEGATE and other stakeholders.

The Payment option to use ECL Wallet was removed from the Customs Duty payment page without any prior notice to the stakeholders. But the CBIC, through its official twitter handle, had assured the concerned that, “Dear User,

Please note that customs duty payments from credit in Electronic Cash Ledger are currently disabled due to maintenance. Kindly use Internet Banking or NEFT/RTGS mode during the downtime. We will update you as soon as ECL credit is available for payments.”

Notably, for the users for whom the ledger entries are being reconciled, other payment options will have to be relied on.

The tweet from the official CBIC Twitter Handle clarified that, “Customs Duty payment through Electronic Cash Ledger has resumed on ICEGATE for all users except in a few cases where ledger entries are being reconciled. In case of any discrepancy call ICEGATE Helpdesk at Toll Free No 1800-3010-1000 or email at icegatehelpdesk@icegate.gov.in.”
