The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has instructed that the requirement of a Health Certificate accompanied with the import of food consignments.
The Board has referred F.No. 1829/Health Certificate/FSSAI/Imports/2021 dated August 03, 2022 issued by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, New Delhi on the above where the FSSAI stated that with effect from November 01, 2022, imported food consignments of following food categories as specified in FSS (Food Product Standards & Food Additives) shall be accompanied by a Health Certificate issued by Competent Authority of the exporting country in the prescribed format as attached as Annexure-I with the said Order. The food categories are as under:
i. Milk and Milk Products
ii. Pork and Pork Products
iii. Fish and Fish products
following this, the Board has clarified that “It is requested that necessary action may be taken to sensitize officers under your jurisdiction. The difficulties, if any, in the implementation of this Instruction may be brought to the notice of the Board.”
FSSAI Food Licensing is a form of certification that ensures that food is fit for consuming as no toxic elements are present in the food. Along with FSSAI License for export business, exporters of food products need to acquire the import-export license as well as a non-objection certificate.
