The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has recently issued Instruction No. 14/2024-Customs on May 17, 2024, pertaining to the e-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022. This instruction addresses the release of imported consignments related to various electronic and electrical equipment (EEE) items listed under the E-Waste (Management) Rules 2022.
Referring to previous directives such as Board Instruction No. 1/2023-Customs dated January 07, 2023, and Board Instruction No. 23/2023-customs dated July 14, 2023, the CBIC emphasizes compliance with the E-Waste Management Rules, 2022, effective from April 01, 2023, and June 30, 2023. Additionally, a related letter from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) dated May 13, 2024, was cited for context .
According to the communication received from CPCB on May 13, 2024, it has been advised that imported consignments of producers dealing with all the notified EEE items (106 EEEs items) can be released upon submitting an undertaking in the prescribed format. This undertaking, along with proof of submission to CPCB at the email address “ewaste2.cpcb@gov.in,” should be submitted by June 30, 2024.
The CBIC urged concerned officers and Trade under their jurisdiction to be informed about this communication and to take necessary actions accordingly. Any challenges encountered in implementing this Instruction were encouraged to be reported to the Board for resolution.
