The Government allowed the import of the potatoes for Bhutan without any import license up to 30th June 2027 for the betterment of the bilateral ties between the two countries.

The DGFT ( Directorate General of Foreign Trade ), in its notification issued on 5th July, has extended the import of the potatoes without license for 3 more years. Earlier, it was allowed to import till 30th June 2024, and thus it was permitted to import till 2027. India imported fresh or chilled potatoes worth $1.02 million in 2022-23.

In a separate notification, the DGFT has notified that the export of basmati and non-basmati rice to European Union states and certain European countries namely United Kingdom, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland requires Certificate of Inspection from EIC/EIAS.
