DGFT Updates SION for Metronidazole Gel [Read Notice]

On March 3, 2025, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade ( DGFT ), which operates under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, issued Public Notice No. 49/2024-25, announcing the introduction of a new Standard Input Output Norms (SION) under Serial Number A-3684. This newly introduced SION specifically pertains to the export product Metronidazole Gel USP 1%, which is categorized under Chemical and Allied Products.

In exercising its powers granted under paragraph 1.03 of the Foreign Trade Policy 2023, the DGFT has taken this significant step to notify the updated input-output norms. The primary objective behind this move is to streamline and simplify the export process for this specific product, while simultaneously providing exporters with more clear, transparent, and detailed guidelines regarding the input-output norms associated with the export of Metronidazole Gel USP 1%.

The notification outlines the input-output norms for two packaging sizes of Metronidazole Gel USP 1%: 55 gm packs and 60 gm tubes.

The new norms are detailed as follows:

  • Export Product: Metronidazole Gel USP 1% in a 55 gm pack
    • Import Item: Micronized Metronidazole USP
    • Quantity Allowed: 0.561 gm per pack
  • Export Product: Metronidazole Gel USP 1% in a 60 gm tube
    • Import Item: Micronized Metronidazole USP
    • Quantity Allowed: 0.612 gm per pack

The new SION is expected to assist exporters in understanding and adhering to the regulatory guidelines associated with the export of Metronidazole Gel USP 1%, thereby reducing complexities in the export process and promoting smoother trade practices. It also highlights India’s ambitious plan to bolster its pharmaceutical exports, marking a significant step towards enhancing the country’s presence in the global pharmaceutical market.
